Turn Toward Each Other: A Utah Response to Tragedy

Utahns have a long tradition of showing up with compassion and caring for each other. We each have a role and a responsibility here. We can choose dignity over division. We can disagree better. We can heal together.

Writing together for the Deseret News, Wheatley Institute Director Paul Edwards joins with peacemaking institutions across the country in mourning the tragic shooting of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University.

As we work both as individuals and as a nation to navigate these difficult times, small steps towards mutual understanding and peacemaking can make an enormous difference in how we move forward and build a brighter tomorrow.

Edwards is quoted: "Now is a time for introspection into how the state can encourage young people to see political opponents as 'a person to be engaged' instead of 'an object to be eradicated.'"
