"Can you achieve compromise without compromising your principles? It certainly can be hard to imagine how that’s possible," Mariya Manzhos from Deseret News writes.
Yet prominent thought leaders think it's achievable. In her recent publication, Manzhos reviews a series of events hosted by Wheatley Institute in Washington D.C. that brought some of these leaders together to discuss this exact question. The keynote lecture, which was offered by President Dallin H. Oaks, was hosted in the Washington National Cathedral.
"Regardless of the outcome, the process of trying to find compromise has inherent value in itself," Manzhos reflects. "It can sharpen our understanding of our own principles and values. It can also help us identify which beliefs and convictions are truly nonnegotiable and even nudge us to adjust the ones that are wrong."
