Youth and Technology: Dr. Jean Twenge Visits Wheatley Institute

What do you ask an expert on technology, culture, and generational psychology when you have the chance?

Dr. Jean Twinge, wearing a blue suit coat, smiles at a student as he asks her a question following the Q&A event. The student's back is to the camera, but we can clearly see Dr. Twinge's face.

Answers to that question varied as Dr. Jean Twenge, Professor of Psychology at San Diego State University, joined Wheatley Institute for a small Q&A session following her remarks at a Brigham Young University forum entitled Navigating the Top 5 Trends of Today's Youth.

Fielding questions from students and Wheatley scholars alike, Twenge's comments touched on a wide range of issues. She explained the ongoing need for schools to better regulate student loaner laptop usage, her own family's decision to tie her kids' first smart phone with getting their drivers license, and the importance of limiting middle schooler access to social media.

Dr. Twenge sits at the front of a room with white walls and wooden paneling, looking into the event crowd as someone asks her a question.

Dr. Twenge's forum remarks will soon be available at BYU Speeches.
