Amid Rising Hate, Governors Share Message of Faith and Hope

“And too often, we think we can separate our Christianity or our religion from our politics, that I’m going to treat my enemies with love and respect, except if they’re a progressive.... I keep looking for that exception, I didn’t find Jesus saying that anywhere.”

This week, Wheatley Institute sponsored a bipartisan forum in the beautiful Washington National Cathedral in Washington, DC. Utah Governor Spencer Cox and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro spoke on confronting political violence in a country dominated by civic distrust and polarization.

The two governors modeled respectful and constructive disagreement in their discussion of America's next steps forward, mentioning both divisive rhetoric from elected officials and social media companies profiting from shock-value content as fuels for the fire of political violence.

"I truly believe that the people of our country are the ones who are going to have to change this. We are."
